before i was born
Today I was doing all of my laundry from when I was on my road trip and I noticed my parents have been doing some cleaning in the basement. While looking at the cleanness of the basement, I found some old photo albums that were sitting out. There were a number of photos of my grandfathers paintings. In fact one of the photos was a mural that he had painted on the entire wall that is inside the City Hall of Ferndale. I flipped all the way to then back of the album and found a letter that was written from him titled “There is a point of no return.” The letter goes as followed:
GRANDPA SEZ,
“There is a point of no return.”
What does this mean? It means there is a time in some of our activities at which we cannot stop, cannot turn back. What are these times?
One of these is the matter of drinking. Drinking Cokes or other soft drinks? No! It is the time when we think we are old enough and big enough to handle alcoholic drinks. Beer may taste different than anything you have drunk, or it may even taste good. But remember, beer can make you drunk. When can you tell that you have had too much? You can’t. It sneaks up on you and you are unaware of it’s reaction to your senses. You become unaware of what is happening and the next thing you know you are drunk. You have passed the point of no return. There is nothing wrong with drinking a little beer or even liquor. A little may make you a little silly, may help you to act a little less inhabited and may even let you have a good time. Smart kids know better than to go beyond the point of no return. Isn’t it smarter to drink just a little so you can enjoy yourself than to get stinko and spoil that party for yourself and others by getting drunk? (The point of no return).
Why not be smart and have a good time instead of trying to prove how strong you are and how you can control yourself by showing others how well you can drive while drunk and ending up by hurting yourself or some else by your stupidity. Stupidity means doing something crazy when you know better. Only smart people can do stupid things. So no matter what the situation, let’s be smart and have a good time and not harm anyone, especially ourselves.
Later, I’ll tall you how the same principle applies to sex.
Love ya – Grandpa
P.S. This letter was written to my 26 grandchildren after I learned that the girl that was driving the truck in which my grandson, Eric Lipovsky, was killed, had been drinking….
Now I couldn’t find any letter applying the principle to sex after reading this but I do know a few things about what this letter was about.
My middle name is Eric and I got it from my cousin Eric Lipovsky, whom I had never met because he died before I was born. Funny thing is that letter was written to his 26 grandchildren at the time. I was number 27. The last grandchild. Anyways I was told that when Eric died from the drunk drive accident that nearly his whole class came to his funeral which means that there must have been something he was living for, something worth following. I personally don’t know what it was that he did in his life to have people admire him for who he was but I’d love to be the same.

Wow. I love this post. And you have already left a legacy and I know that I admire you!
I hope Chicago was tons of fun!
